Scandown Privacy Policy

Effective date: October 8, 2026

Scandown is an iPhone and iPad app from InkMomentum that converts camera captures and imported documents into Markdown. This policy explains how the Scandown app handles information. It does not describe the separate operation of this website or services you choose to use with the app.

Your documents stay under your control

Scandown processes images and recognizes text on your device using Apple frameworks. We do not operate a document server or upload your scans, extracted text, or recognized contact details to a cloud recognition service. Scandown does not require an account and does not include advertising, third-party analytics, or cross-app tracking. We do not sell your personal information.

Information stored on your device

Scandown stores information needed to provide its features, including captured or imported files, recognized text, generated Markdown, document titles and dates, scan history, thumbnails, and related image assets. It also stores your preferences, selected-folder access information, conversion count, and purchase entitlement state.

Scandown’s app and its extensions share relevant files and history through an app storage container on your device. Widgets may display recent scan titles, thumbnails, or previews. Progress may appear in a Live Activity. Consider what these system surfaces show when other people can see your screen; you can manage widgets and Live Activities through your device settings.

Permissions and optional integrations

Scandown uses access you grant for the features you choose:

You can manage system permissions in Settings. Declining access may prevent the corresponding feature from working. You can change or forget a selected destination folder in Scandown’s settings.

If you choose a folder used by Ledge, Scandown can write standard Markdown and related metadata there. When you choose the optional contact integration, this may include a saved system-contact identifier. Other apps with access to that folder can read its contents.

Exports, sharing, and cloud providers

Scandown can save or share Markdown, PDFs, original images, and linked assets, including packaged archives when needed. These files may contain personal information from your documents. You choose the destination or receiving app.

If you select iCloud Drive, another cloud file provider, a shared folder, or a sharing service, that provider may upload, synchronize, or disclose the files according to your settings and its own privacy policy. Photos, Contacts, Calendar, and Reminders may also synchronize through services you have configured. On-device recognition does not prevent those user-selected services or device backups from storing copies elsewhere.

Purchases

Apple processes Scandown Unlimited purchases through the App Store. Scandown uses StoreKit transaction and entitlement information to unlock features and restore purchases. We do not receive your payment-card details. Apple’s handling of App Store purchases is governed by Apple’s Privacy Policy.

Retention and deletion

Scan history and related app-managed files remain on your device until removed by the app’s controls or the operating system. Your capture retention setting controls whether originals are saved and linked; it is not a promise that all working files or history are immediately erased after recognition.

You can delete results using Scandown’s Delete control. The app removes the corresponding history entry and attempts to remove associated app-managed files that are no longer referenced by other history items. Copies already saved to a destination folder, exported, shared, added to Photos, or saved as contacts, events, or reminders must be deleted separately from those destinations. Backup copies are subject to the backup provider’s retention settings.

Deleting the app removes its app data according to iOS and iPadOS behavior. Offloading the app preserves its data. We do not hold a server copy of your documents and cannot retrieve or delete copies held by a service you selected.

Support communications

If you contact us, we receive the information you choose to send, such as your email address, message, and any attachments. We use it to respond and address your request. Send only the information needed for support and remove sensitive document content from examples. Support correspondence is handled through the email service used for that communication and may be retained as needed to resolve the request and maintain relevant records.

Children

Scandown does not require users to provide a name, age, or account profile, and does not knowingly collect children’s personal information through an in-app account or tracking service. If a child includes personal information in a scanned document, that document is handled locally as described above unless the user chooses to export or share it. A parent or guardian who has concerns about information sent directly to us can contact us.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when Scandown’s features or data practices change. We will publish the revised policy here and update its effective date.
